“The first thing you’ll notice about Wit’s End is the beautiful yard. It is full of amazing flowers, fruits, fountains, birds, and happy dogs. Most of our first hour at the retreat was spent exploring the gardens and taking pictures. The room is beautifully and meticulously furnished, and we had all the peace and quiet we could have wanted. The breakfasts were exquisite; made with fresh ingredients (many from their own garden). Most of all, Heather and Sandy were extremely friendly and kind, even setting us up with reservations to a very nice restaurant on the island. “Wits End was recommended by a close friend at home as a “must visit” so when an opportunity arrived while visiting our son in Vancouver we jumped at the chance. We needed three difficult days at short notice – over New Year, but Sandy was more than obliging when we booked. How glad we were we made that impulsive decision. We could not have been made more welcome. Both Sandy and Heather (and their two beautiful golden retrievers) were incredible “hosts” .
The food they supplied was amazing and when they realised we were staying “home” at New Years they even had a platter of nibblies, cheeses and cold meat for us to have. Both took extra trouble to source Lactose free products for me, which was really appreciated and were in all cases delicious.
The room and ensuite are beautifully appointed and kept meticulously clean at all times. We felt really pampered and very welcome. My love affair with the dogs even caused Heatther to spend some time brushing my black jacket clean, while I was wearing it). I thoroughly enjoyed our gossips and really wish we were able to visit at a better time to appreciate the obviously beautiful gardens. The Christmas lights were pretty good though!
